Keeping a living game like Destiny 2 working and balanced at all times is a nearly impossible task, which means glitches and bugs often slip through Bungie’s patch-delivering fingers. These bugs often provide game-changing (or game-breaking) exploits that make the game a lot more ridiculous - and, many time, a lot more fun.
One of Destiny 2’s most popular glitches recently made the exotic Wish Ender bow deal massive damage. This allowed the weapon, which normally overpenatrates targets and allows players to see enemies through walls, to deal sniper-like damage in PvE, making it one of the game’s best primary weapons. Many Destiny 2 players called for the extra damage to stay, saying it made the weapon feel like a unique tool worthy of its exotic status, but Bungie eventually patched the Wish Ender’s damage. Players found a new way to break Wish Ender after the patch, however, but this involved a little more set-up.
The most well-known Destiny 2 bugs mirror the Wish Ender’s, increasing a weapon or ability’s power to make it either finally notable or completely overpowered. Here are some of the game’s other most-popular bugs, glitches, and exploits.
Destiny 2’s Telesto - Broken & “Besto”
Perhaps the most frequently bugged gun in all of Destiny 2 is the Telesto, an exotic Fusion Rifle that fires projectiles which attach to targets and explode. The explosion of these projectiles has, at times, been accidentally counted towards a player’s “enemies defeated” count, resulting in a number of game-breaking exploits. Around the time of Destiny 2: Shadowkeep’s launch, a Telesto Super glitch allowed players to instantly gain full Super energy by throwing a grenade at the Telesto projectiles. Later, a Telesto ammo bug allowed players to gain infinite ammo for the weapon, and several more Telesto bugs were discovered after the ammo glitch was patched.
Destiny 2’s Prometheus Lens Laser Tag
Many Destiny 2 PvP players have fond memories of “laser tag weekend,” when the Prometheus Lens exotic Trace Rifle reigned supreme. The gun was bugged when it was introduced during the Curse of Osiris expansion, able to kill Guardians at long ranges in an incredibly short time. Since Bungie didn’t have time to patch the bug before the weekend, it embraced the chaos and added the Prometheus Lens to Xur’s exotic inventory. This populated regular Crucible and 98% of Trials of the Nine matches with instakilling Solar lasers, prompting the community to dub the Prometheus Lens event “laser tag.”
Destiny 2’s God Mode Glitch
A recently discovered Destiny 2 glitch allows players to gain immunity and solo raid activities, becoming invulnerable to enemy and environmental damage and even raid wipe mechanics. Pulling the glitch off is a matter of executing a complicated combination of sword swings, dodges, and emotes with the Hunter class, but the result is an unkillable, bullet-shooting, first-person camera.
Destiny 2’s Nova Bomb Dodgeball PvP
Shortly after Destiny 2’s initial launch in 2017, players discovered a Warlock Nova Bomb glitch that made Mayhem PvP mode even more mayhem-filled. While Mayhem normally gives players their Super ability energy back fairly quickly, the glitch allowed players to keep full Super energy at all times while still tossing tons of devastating Nova Bomb Supers. As such, a deadly game of purple dodgeball ensued.
Destiny 2’s Boss-Tossing Finishers
The Destiny 2: Shadowkeep expansion’s Finishers introduced an interesting wrinkle to average combat encounters, but the finishing moves’ craziest contribution to the game came in the form of a bug. The Destiny 2 raid boss-punching glitch allowed players to “pocket” a Finisher for later use. If used in front of a boss, the boss would be shot backward, enabling players to “yeet” certain bosses off cliffs and out of arenas for an instant victory.
Destiny 2’s All-Powerful Toaster, Jotunn
Likely Destiny 2’s most broken weapon glitch ever is the increased Jotunn damage bug. Introduced in the Black Armory season, the toaster-like Jotunn was able to kill raid bosses in eight shots, trivializing most of the game’s boss encounters. The gun was so broken that Bungie simply disabled Jotunn for word’s-first raid runs when Destiny 2: Shadowkeep launched.
