Capcom’s Devil May Cry 3 makes its way to the Nintendo Switch with new additions. Here’s how players can level up each individual fighting style in the game. Capcom has periodically been bringing their classic titles on to the Nintendo Switch. Around the Switch’s launch, the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection released beginning to strengthen that relationship. More Capcom games like the Mega Man series, Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, and Okami have made their way to the portable home console hybrid. Now, the gaming giant has begun to roll out games from their Devil May Cry series. Each of the Nintendo Switch Devil May Cry games have been individually released digitally on the Nintendo eShop, unlike the other collections which have released with all three major titles on one disc. This guide will help players level up their styles quickly and easily in Devil May Cry 3.

Devil May Cry 3 functions as a prequel to the first title of the series. Dante, the main protagonist, becomes challenged by Virgil to complete his challenge. So Dante makes his way up a tower that erupts from the ground to face him. The initial game released back in 2005, making its Switch debut in 2020. A few new additions have been added to this 15-year-old game including a brand new cooperative game mode. The “Bloody Palace” mode will have two players taking control of both Dante and Virgil as they must work together to defeat a gauntlet of enemies. This mode is not for the faint of heart, as the Bloody Palace contains 9999 floors in Devil May Cry 3. Another new addition to the Switch port would be style switching. Now, players can easily switch between different fighting styles on the fly using the D-Pad. This feature was introduced in Devil May Cry 4 and carried over to Devil May Cry 5 and now exclusively the Switch port of Devil May Cry 3. This method of switching styles quickly allows players to pull off insane and flashy combos much more seamlessly. Completing flashy combos is what makes the gameplay of Devil May Cry so memorable. Here’s how to level up each style in the game.

The game has five different types of styles for Dante to slaughter demons with, DarkSlayer, Trickster, Royalguard, SwordMaster, and Gunslinger. Each style has its own situations in which they thrive. Although, players are focusing on leveling up all of them. Considering they all level up the same way, the three methods listed below function well in maximizing your styles’ levels. Upgrading each style comes with its own perks.

  • DarkSlayer: Using the power of darkness to unlock new weapons as Virgil Trickster: Focuses on quickly dodging enemy attacks. Royalguard: Focuses on countering enemies attacks SwordMaster: Increase the Devil Arms’ abilities for their elemental attacks Gunslinger: Mastery of different guns

Each style levels up individually by defeating demons and collecting their orbs. There are a few locations throughout the story that maximize how quickly the player can collect orbs. The first is in Mission 3.

How To Level Up Quickly in Mission 3 on Devil May Cry 3

Mission 3 takes the player into the Devil’s Tower. Make sure to select the Easiest difficulty. How quickly the player levels up is not determined on how hard the game is set. It carries over between all difficulties. Here, players should focus on making their way to the boss, Cerberus. Players can battle enemies along the way, but the number of orbs is minuscule when compared to the boss. Cerberus is considered one of the hardest bosses in the game. Avoid close combat by attacking him with Dante’s gun. Focus on avoiding the falling ice cubes. Killing Cerberus provides the player with 7000 experience on each run. Select the style the player wishes the level up and defeat him. If Cerberus is seeming too repetitive to complete and gain experience from, there are other methods in later missions that provide tons of experience for styles.

How To Level Up Quickly In Mission 18 on Devil May Cry 3

This is the toughest stage in the entire game, so selecting Easy difficulty can make the difference between life and death. In this mission, players are pitted against every major boss they have faced up to this point in a back-to-back gauntlet. Invading Hell throws Dante into a graveyard where all of his previous enemies lay. Players only need to defeat three of these bosses to clear out the stage, but defeating them all provides way more experience for Dante. The player will be heavily rewarded as each boss provides a massive chunk of experience. This mission is high risk/high reward as it may be the most difficult to complete, it does yield the highest experience.

How To Level Up Quickly In Mission 20 on Devil May Cry 3

Mission 20 is the final battle of the game against Vergil. Dante has made his way to the top of the tower and arrives as Vergil has collected the Force Edge, the Devil Sword Sparda. The battle then begins. On the easiest difficulty, it shouldn’t take players more than a minute to defeat him. In this battle, the Swordmaster style makes the battle easier, so if the player hasn’t already maxed out this style, use it here. Also bring at least three Vital Star Ls, 2 Devil Stars, and 1 Holy Water to make the battle easier. If done right, players can get through this fight 10 times within 10 minutes, making it an ideal grinding location for those who want the quick experience for their styles.

Devil May Cry has returned back to the limelight with its massively successful comeback, Devil May Cry 5. Many consider this Devil May Cry a return to form and potentially prompted Capcom to release these titles on the Nintendo Switch. On other consoles, the Devil May Cry HD Collection is sold with the complete first three titles of the series. As for the Nintendo Switch, each game has been sold individually digitally only on the Nintendo eShop. Although, the Switch ports are amongst the only ones that have received new gameplay updates like the Blood Palace Local Co-op and the ability to quickly switch styles. If these ports prove to be successful, we may see future ports of Devil May Cry 4 and Devil May Cry 5 join the Switch library.
