Disney’s live-action The Lion King movie unveils a TV spot during the 2019 Oscars that features more new footage from the upcoming remake. In recent years, Walt Disney Studios has dug into their animated classics library for live-action adaptations of fan-favorite films. Kenneth Branagh’s Cinderella and Bill Condon’s Beauty and the Beast reimagined the classic animated Disney movies in the live-action format, bringing some newness while staying true to the original films. Similarly, Jon Favreau’s The Jungle Book adapted Disney’s animated take on Rudyard Kipling’s original work and found success with fans young and old.

Favreau and Disney reteamed for a live-action adaptation of The Lion King - though there’s been some debate about whether it can be considered live-action since all the animals are brought to life using hyperrealistic CGI. And like the other live-action reimaginations of animated Disney movies, The Lion King will be tasked with bringing all the fan-favorite characters to life. Thankfully, The Lion King has an incredibly talented voice cast on board who will be lending personality to new versions of the animated characters that were so beloved in the original. Now, Disney has released a new look at its live-action The Lion King.

During the 91st Academy Awards, Disney premiered a new Lion King TV spot and released a new poster for the live-action film, both of which can be viewed below. This TV spot features some footage that was in the first Lion King teaser trailer, but it also features some new looks at the animals who populate the Pride Lands - and, of course, the shot of young Simba sneezing is new. Take a look at The Lion King TV spot and new poster:

Like the first teaser trailer, this latest TV spot mainly utilizes footage from The Lion King’s iconic “Circle of Life” sequence, which featured perhaps the most well remembered and visually striking animation in the 1994 movie. While the Oscars TV spot doesn’t reveal a great deal of new footage, it does highlight the ensemble cast of The Lion King, which includes Donald Glover, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Seth Rogen, Alfre Woodard, Billy Eichner, John Kani, John Oliver, Florence Kasumba, Eric André, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, and James Earl Jones. Disney has undoubtedly assembled a host of talented performers to bring iconic characters like Simba, Timon and Pumbaa to life in The Lion King.

Of course, fans of the original animated Lion King may not be on board with Favreau’s live-action reimagination. After all, there will be differences between the live-action Lion King and the 1994 movie. Not to mention, some will take issue with Disney continuing to call this new film a live-action movie when all the characters are brought to life with CGI. However, considering the success Disney has found with live-action remakes of their animated classics, it’s fair to think the Mouse House will have another hit on their hands with The Lion King.
