The Sonic the Hedgehog video game adaptation is hitting theaters, but does the Sonic movie have a post-credits scene - and, if so, how many? A live-action take on Sega’s classic Sonic the Hedgehog video game franchise has long been in the works, but it only really started moving forward in the last few years. Originally slated for a Fall 2019 release, Sonic the Hedgehog was delayed three months so the titular blue hedgehog could be redesigned after a huge backlash to the first trailer. Director Jeff Fowler announced the redesign, which was unveiled last fall in a new trailer.

The Sonic the Hedgehog movie redesign has been met with an overwhelmingly positive response from fans, particularly because it returns the beloved character to his more classic game design. In the movie, Sonic is voiced by Ben Schwartz, and the anthropomorphic hedgehog is joined by human characters Tom Wachowski (James Marsden), who befriends Sonic, and the evil Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey). The mad scientist serves as the villain of the classic Sega games, with Sonic the Hedgehog adapting Robotnik aka Eggman to live-action along with the hedgehog hero. Now that Sonic the Hedgehog is hitting theaters after its delay, fans will get a chance to see Sonic and Robotnik come to life in live-action.

Those checking out Sonic the Hedgehog in theaters may be wondering whether the movie has any credits scenes to stick around for. Sonic the Hedgehog DOES have a credits scene - two (sort of). One Sonic the Hedgehog credits scene is immediately after the title card at the end of the movie, before the credits actually begin, so it’s debatable whether this truly counts as a credits scene. The other is a Sonic movie mid-credits scene, located in the middle of the credits sequence. There’s nothing at the very end of the movie.

In terms of whether either or both scenes are worth sticking around for, it should be noted both set the stage for a Sonic the Hedgehog sequel. Without revealing exactly what happens in the credits scenes for those who haven’t seen Sonic the Hedgehog yet, the first scene sets up the villain of a sequel, while the mid-credits scene introduces a new character that would presumably have a larger role in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Fans of the Sonic video games will definitely want to stick around through the credits, at least until the mid-credits scene.

With so much sequel setup, though, it remains to be seen if Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is put into development. The potential sequel is likely dependent on whether Sonic the Hedgehog is a box office success, which may prove to be a difficult task given the money put into redesigning the hedgehog. That said, the Sonic redesign budget is reportedly as low as $5 million, with the film’s total budget being $95 million, so the bar is relatively low for Sonic the Hedgehog to become a financial success. Fans will have to wait and see whether Sonic the Hedgehog 2 gets the greenlight. For now, moviegoers just need to know there are two Sonic the Hedgehog end-credits scenes to look out for.
