Dog’s Most Wanted Duane “Dog” Chapman aka Dog the Bounty Hunter has had a rough year. He’s just opened up about his recent “scary” health scare after suffering from a pulmonary embolism in his heart.

Dog is a world-famous bounty hunter who pursues fugitives from his home state in Colorado all the way to Hawaii. Since 2004, Dog, his wife, and sons have been tracking down bad guys. His new series, Dog’s Most Wanted for WGN America, has been following Dog as he chases down the harder, more dangerous criminals. The show has also shown the more private side of their life, most importantly his late wife Beth Chapman’s battle with cancer. It’s been an emotional year for Dog as his wife and partner in crime, Beth, passed away at the age of 51 on June 26th after fighting a long and painful battle with stage 4 throat cancer. After suffering from heart-attack-like symptoms in September, 66-year-old Dog was fearful of going back to the hospital for his own care.

The famous bounty hunter revealed how his health scare was one of the more terrifying experiences of his life. He told People, “I thought I had a heart attack.” He explained that he thought at first it was just a case of a broken heart, saying, “I’m like, ‘Beth, please quit squeezing my heart, please.’ I thought it was it.” It was because of this that he almost decided against getting help from doctors, even after he had checked himself into a hospital. He explained, “I went to the hospital and they were kind of rude so I checked out.” He revealed that it wasn’t until after Dr. Oz came and visited him at his home in Denver that he changed his mind. He said, “Then Dr. Oz came to me and said, ‘What are you doing? You’re crazy. Come back.’ So I did.” Dog continued, “You got to do what Dr. Oz says.”

Two weeks later, Dog learned that it wasn’t just a case of a broken heart like he thought, but it was actually a serious condition, a pulmonary embolism, in which one or more arteries has been blocked by a blood clot. Dog explained, “They found on the right lung a blood clot.” The fearless bounty hunter revealed, “It was scary.” The bounty hunter revealed that he’s now on blood thinners as he continues down the road to recovery. However, this could put an end to him hunting down the bad guys for the time being. He said, “I’m supposed to relax and not run down someone.”  He revealed that he’s following doctor’s orders because he doesn’t feel like he’s in any shape to be tracking down bad guys, saying, “I probably couldn’t even because you can feel it.” Now that Dog is taking his health seriously and is on the mend, he revealed that he’s doing much better now and his only complaint is that he is “a little tired.”

This has been an extremely tough year for the TV star after losing his partner in crime, being robbed, and now his recent health scare, it seems that the worst is behind him. Dog has taken care of late-wife through her battle with cancer and now it’s his turn to take care of himself. Dog the Bounty Hunter fans have Dr. Oz to thank for helping this strong-willed man realize that it’s a sign of strength to get help.
