Paramount releases the first trailer for Dora and the Lost City of Gold. Starring American actress Isabela Moner, the family adventure film continues the storyline set by the Nickelodeon series Dora The Explorer. The trailer first premiered at the 2019 Kids Choice Awards.

Directed by James Bobin, Dora and the Lost City of Gold stars Moner as the title character, with Eva Longoria and Michael Peña portraying her parents. In a voice role, veteran actor Danny Trejo co-stars as Boots the Monkey. The script was written by Matthew Robinson and Nicholas Stoller, the latter of whom is known for writing and directing the films Get Him to the Greek, The Five-Year Engagement, Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, and Storks. Dora and the Lost City of Gold’s teenage star Moner co-starred in Michael Bay’s 2017 film Transformers: The Last Knight, and there’s been speculation as to whether the Platinum Dunes co-founder would produce the Nickelodeon adaptation. Last August, however, Bay denied any involvement in Dora and the Lost City of Gold. From 2000 to 2014, the animated series Dora the Explorer aired on Nickelodeon, with Kathleen Herles, Caitlin Sanchez, and Fátima Ptacek voicing the title character.

On YouTube, Paramount released Dora and the Lost City of Gold’s trailer. Early on, the clip establishes the concept that “exploring is not a game,” as Dora leaps and fails during a jungle adventure. From there, Dora’s parents explain their intent to find an ancient city made of gold, only to reveal that Dora won’t be joining them, and will transfer from the jungle to a high school in Los Angeles. The girl then meets up with her cousin Diego and quickly makes an impression upon locals with her energetic attitude and mysterious origin story. In the trailer’s second half, Dora receives a big surprise during a field trip, as she’s kidnapped and forced to assist explorers that also want to find a city made of gold. At the 2017 Teen Choice Awards, the now 17-year-old Moner was honored as Choice Summer Movie Actress for Transformers: The Last Knight, so she already has a loyal fanbase. In addition, she released her debut album, Stopping Time, in 2015, and was featured in Sebastián Yatra’s 2018 song “No Hay Nadie Más (My Only One),” along with Matt Hunter’s “Lista De Espera.” Last year, Moner also starred in the films Sicario: Day of the Soldado and Instant Family. For the latter, she recorded and released the song “I’ll Stay.”

In recent years, Isabela Moner has proven to be one of Hollywood’s most promising young actresses. Currently, she’s shooting the Netflix film Let It Snow with Kiernan Shipka, the star of the Netflix series Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. After Dora and the Lost City of Gold hits theaters, Moner will take another giant leap forward, as the trailer emphasizes her endearing charisma, action star athleticism, and A-list potential.
